The area of ​​industrial air conditioning has become more and more important in recent years. In the past, the heat from the components could still be dissipated passively, but now more and more active cooling is required. Passive cooling, for example, was implemented solely through heat dissipation via the control cabinet surface, through ventilation grids or thermal coupling of components that are particularly problematic in terms of heat. The disadvantages are obvious with the different methods: the surface cooling is too dependent on the place of installation and the ambient temperature. Ventilation grids open the control cabinet for fresh air, but also for unwanted foreign bodies / deposits, which in turn can lead to a failure of the system. The thermal coupling ultimately leads to the conscious formation of hot spots. All three cooling concepts together have one major disadvantage: they cannot be controlled or are difficult to control.

With active cooling, the heat dissipation is controlled. As a basis for an appropriate cooling solution, one must first determine the basic data: How much cooling capacity do I actually need, is the cooling capacity required continuously, what are the conditions at the location of the cabinet, are there any restrictions in terms of space, volume, voltage? After these considerations, one should select the appropriate cooling components.

Subjected Areas

Filter fans made of plastic are the easiest way to cool a control cabinet. The integrated filter prevents dust from penetrating as far as possible, and filter mats can be easily and quickly replaced or cleaned even when they are installed.
Heat exchangers are based on the principle of indirect heat transfer. The internal circuit and external circuit are separated from one another, and heat is exchanged through the heat flows that are conducted past one another. The simplest form of this system is an air / air heat exchanger, but the selection of the heat transfer medium (e.g. water) can increase its effectiveness.
Switch cabinet cooling units have a closed cooling circuit. In this circuit, a gaseous refrigerant is compressed by a compressor and heated as a result, the refrigerant is now under high pressure. It is cooled down in the condenser and thereby changes its physical state from gaseous to liquid, but the high pressure remains. Due to the constant build-up of pressure in the compressor, the liquid refrigerant is pressed through a capillary tube into the evaporator, which causes it to reduce pressure and evaporate. Cold is released into the environment.
The principle of Peltier cooling corresponds to that of an electric heat pump. The Peltier elements transport the heat energy from the cold exchanger inside the switch cabinet to the heat exchanger on the outside of the switch cabinet. The warm air inside the control cabinet is blown onto the cold exchanger by a fan and is cooled in the process. The heat exchanger on the outside of the switch cabinet is then cooled with ambient air. The main advantage of Peltier cooling is its functional reliability. There are no liquids and therefore no risk of leaks.
Coolers (also called chillers) are primarily used to cool a liquid, in most cases water or oil. The liquids serve as a heat transfer medium and absorb the heat from the heat source and transport it through lines or pipes to the dry cooler. There, heat is extracted from the liquid, the medium becomes cooler and is reintroduced into the circuit. The heat transfer medium circulates in its own closed circuit.
